Act1 was engaged as theatre consultants to collaborate with Powers Brown Architects on a project already in motion at the new Upper Campus for MacLachlan College. The brief was to make a functional multi-use performance space with high calibre equipment acoustics that didn't compromise the space's use as a cafeteria. The tight pre-defined footprint of the stage was optimized for accessibility and theatrical performance. Act1 curved the ceiling above the stage, and angled the walls, providing good first reflection surfaces for spoken words on stage. We then developed a striking wave form of acoustic baffles throughout the space, obscuring the theatrical lighting fixtures and rigging points, and reducing reverb time in the cafetorium.
